The narrator of FORBIDDEN RELATIONS is a successful doctor and member of Parliament whose orderly life ends when he begins an obsessive love affair with Anna Barton, his son Marty's new girlfriend, involving him, his wife, and his daughter Sally. Intoxicated by love for Anna and simultaneously subjugated by the influence of this woman, whose behavior mirrors the incestuous relationship with his brother, which ultimately led to his suicide, Marty's father, overwhelmed by the horror of his betrayal, feels that despite everything, this frenetic sadomasochistic relationship is what he must live through. The outcome inevitably transforms into a family tragedy, with his marriage and career destroyed.
