Looks unread: no marks, creases or tears.
The texts gathered here contemplate the intellectual, scientific, and cultural work of prominent Portuguese Jews such as Amato Lusitano, Garcia de Orta, Rodrigo de Castro, Leão Hebreu, Francisco Sanches, Ribeiro Sanches, among others, and seek to reflect on how the science and thought of these philosophers, doctors, and humanists—men of culture in general—projected themselves onto the world stage. They were forced to leave the country, from the distant 15th century to more recent times. All of them were major figures in our history because of the strong marks they left inscribed on European culture, in the lands that welcomed them. And their lives remain to this day, lives that time has not erased, for they achieved the best kind of immortality: that conferred by intelligence, knowledge, and humanity.
