"Encontro em Bagdad" (or They Came to Baghdad) is a 1951 spy and adventure novel written by the renowned British author Agatha Christie. Set during the early Cold War, Baghdad is chosen as the secret location for a high-level summit between world superpowers, but an underground international criminal and fascist organization plots to sabotage the meeting and prevent world peace. Victoria Jones is a young, adventurous English typist who travels to Baghdad on an impulse for love, only to find a murdered British agent dying in her arms—leaving her with a cryptic final message ("... Lucifer ... Basrah ... Lefarge ...") that pulls her into the center of the global conspiracy.
