The Eleven Thousand Rods tells the story of a Romanian prince, Mony Vibescu, on his depraved journey in search of excitement and adventure that takes him from Bucharest to Paris, passing through various European countries and culminating in China. His wanderings are punctuated by remarkably crude scenes, in which Apollinaire explores, with unusual humor, the most obscene facets of sexuality, from sadism to masochism, from vampirism to sapphism, from gerontophilia to pederasty, from masturbation to group sex.
